Starmaya is really a unique coffee variety, the progeny of two parents: Marsellesa and CIR-SM01. Marsellesa (a Sarchimor line) was chosen for its resistance to coffee leaf rust and its organoleptic qualities. The CIR-SM01 was chosen as it doesn’t produce pollen. Planting them together ensures that the only pollen produced is coming from Marsellesa and, therefore this will fertilize also CIR-SM01 plants. This fantastic natural cross-pollination was the creation of the new Starmaya variety.
