BOMBE - ETHIOPIA
Two things, in particular, are typical for Ethiopian coffee – community processing stations and several hundred to thousands of small farmers who bring their cherries for processing.
The Bombe processing station, located north of Shantawene village and part of the Daye Bensa Coffee company, is no exception.
Farmers who supply coffee to this processing station grow it high in the mountains and lush green vegetation of the mountains called Bombe.
The Bombe processing station is very successful in its region thanks to its excellent organization and progressive approach to processing and ecology, and is therefore widely used by producers from other nearby areas.
Kontema is one of the sub-districts for Sidama region. And it is a home to one of our coffee processing stations called by the same name. Kontema Station is capable of processing half a million kgs of coffee in a given harvesting year. Sourcing coffees called Bombe Kontema and Muraga, It is found at a staggering 2100 - 2300 meters above sea level. The surrounding village is beautifully designed with traditional handmade wooden doors and windows, and houses are built a little bit up from the ground because the place is exposed to flood. With having fertile soil and higher rainfall, Kontema is such a great place to harvest coffee.
